After a looong and somewhat rocky road, Situation is now updated to version 4.4. The most important part is bringing Sailfish OS support back - and to the same level with Android. Basically celebrating 1000 likes in Harbour and the new phone release from Jolla :)
New Sailfish OS support happened by making most of the app compile also with quite old Qt version. What comes to UI however, it had to be rewritten “from scratch”. In practice a “compatibility layer” was made so that Silica based UI style on Sailfish and custom Qt Quick Controls based style of the Android version are mostly similar. This way, while UIs are different for the two platforms, they are mostly comparable and thus hopefully easier to maintain in the long run.
Sailfish version also gained support for controlling user defined ambiances and AppSupport.
On Android side, app framework was updated along with many java side deprecation warnings getting fixed. And some minor parts of UI were made more compatible with the Silica style.
Unfortunately Android itself keeps dumbing down in new platform releases, so next stop will probably be about disabling some more support in normal Situations version. And perhaps introducing some rooting capabilities for those how prefer to use their devices that way.
